Recreating the Simple Life

Once upon a time, I believe humans lived in a very simple world. Their day started with a warm sunrise and ended with a calming sunset. Between those 2 moments, very simple activities took place. Consistently done over time, those activities proved to allow people to live long, very healthy and happy lives...lives free of hatred, guilt, separation and despair.

Each week, they would spend one day walking, talking and gathering. Another day, they would spend the morning hunting and fishing. The afternoon was used to clean and preserve. Children learned trades, helpful skills and built trust with each other. The remainder of the week was spent repairing huts or tents, cutting firewood and helping others do the same. They would repeat this cycle week after week.

Where did those days go? What's different?

Nearly every waking moment was spent outdoors in quiet places, with family and friends, feeling the sun, working and playing, hearing the birds sing, the water flow and the trees rustling in the breeze.

I envision relaxed people, with low blood pressure, low heart rates, no headaches, body aches or stomach aches…breathing lots of clean air, displaying cheerful smiles and laughing…lots of laughter.

When I compare their quality of life to the lives so many are living today, with their work commute, the traffic, the horns, sirens and unhappy displays of irritation from other drivers, I’m sad for them.

We have something very different at Lone Oak, something new, fresh, simple...and counter cultural. I'm excited to share it with so many. When we're not sharing with guests, I feel a sense of guilt, as though I let you down.

Those simple days still exist. They didn't go anywhere. They're just a bit more hidden. Come see us.

Remain Encouraged,

Brian

The short answer to my 11 year old’s question isn’t because I have an extraordinary amount of patience. It’s because I’ve learned to see the moment in front of me for what it actually is.
